Introduction

Welcome to the music section of AnalogX! The following music represents pretty much everything I've written (that's worth putting up) - the songs range from as far back as the early 90's to right around now. Each album tends to have its own style, so I would recommend checking out a song or two from each, then grabbing whatever strikes your fancy.
As with all musicians, I think it's safe to say that we have two things that we would love to do - the first is to have as many people listen to our music as possible, the second would be to be able to write music full time. One of the dreams that the Internet provides is that you might be able to actually accomplish both - and that's what finally made me decide to put everything up. Whether or not you decide to donate is really up to you - and ultimately that will let me know if people would rather I spent my time working on more software or music. ;) So, download to your heart's content and if you enjoy the music then donate towards more being made - it doesn't matter how much you can donate, even a dollar lets me know that you liked it at least a little bit.

This album was a collaboration between myself and Gardner Cole - while my style is obviously more electronic, he's definitely more on the pop vibe. All of these songs also have lyrics (he wrote) performed by a variety of vocalists, so it's definitely very different than my usual stuff.

I transitioned back over to the computer for this one, and the result is a much more beat-oriented style than my normal studio electronic style. While I try to marry the two styles I generally tend to fixate on one or the other - because of the more aggressive feel of this album (plus the fact that it's entirely done on software again), I always consider this the sequel to BuzzSaw. That's also why I made the delineation on the albums of Sine or Saw (mellow or more aggressive), and why I picked a name which was similar to BuzzSaw.

Unfortunately this album will never be finished, since my studio is no more - so it's more of an EP than a full album. I was fiddling around with smoother transitions between parts of the song and greater layering of sounds - not that I didn't already layer quite a bit. I particularly like 'Over You', and it's a good illustration of how my song names are horrible - typically what I do is randomly pick a letter on the alphabet that I haven't used yet as the first character, then try to think up a word or simple phrase that starts with it.

While I've never considered myself terribly good at either lyrics or singing, I generally enjoy both (ok, well maybe not writing lyrics), so I decided to do an album based around things on the Internet. The idea was that I would only use actual text from sites focused around a particular subject, then rearrange them into something that made sense (hopefully) and told some sort of story. The only one I actually recorded the vocals to was 'Date Me' - the lyrics are actual text fragments from ads for mail-order brides, and before you ask, no, I don't have a mail order bride, that just happened to dominant the search results at the time.

Since I enjoyed the challenge of writing an album just using one program, I extended that out and decided to use just one synth at a time (although I also used some outboard effects). For whatever reason I also fell in love with a particular tempo, and many of the songs from this album are at the same rate (I think it was 130bpm).

In the past I had set weird little internal challenges for myself when writing songs, and this album is really the extreme manifestation of that. I picked up a pretty interesting program called FruityLoops which reminded me of the good ol days of Trackers , which is where I really started making music. To make a long story short, I decided to try to write all the songs using only FruityLoops, and the result was this album.

Unlike most musicians (I assume), I generally don't sit down and write an album - instead I write songs until I have enough to fill up a CD and that follow a generally consistent feel. This album (and Springtime in Paris) is different than all the others in that it's really just a collection of some of the songs I'd written in the past that I had particularly liked. For those interested, I actually have three more CD's of music (entitled Mirror 1, Mirror 2 and not surprisingly, Mirror 3) that are all the songs I had from before 1995.
